Bankroll Management
As with all forms of online gambling – bankroll management is a key to long terms success. The rule of thumb in blackjack is no bet should be more than 4-5% of your total bankroll. For example, if you are playing with $25, then ideally your bets should be $1-$1.25.
Blackjack Strategy
When it comes to online blackjack strategy, the key is reducing the house edge as much as possible. Players should also target games where they can surrender, double after a split, re-split hands and split aces. The most common ways players can increase their odds are by splitting hands and doubling down.
Doubling Down in Blackjack
When you double down, you double your bet to receive one additional card. The most common blackjack double down situations are when the total of your hand is 10 or 11. The lower the dealer’s upcard, the greater your advantage is.
An example of this is if the dealer shows a 3 through 7 and you have a 9,10 or 11, you should always double down. The math says this a profitable situation over the long haul, so you want to get as much money on the table as you possibly can.
Splitting Hands in Blackjack
Knowing when to split pairs, and when not to, is one of the ways to reduce the house edge. It represents such a key factor in basic blackjack strategy. Splitting pairs can help turn bad hands into winning hands and add profits to your bankroll.
An example of this is when you have two 8’s. They create the worst possible hand total in blackjack of 16. However, if you elect to split them, you have a chance to draw a face card on each, creating an 18. This helps increase your house edge over the long term as it increases your odds of winning.
The only drawback is by splitting cards, you’ll have to double the size of your original bet to play the two separate blackjack hands.
